I'm getting an image of that one blind girl from that cartoon with some kind of benders...Firebender, airbender etc. She's blind right? But I'm not really thrilled by a blind Naruto. Naruto - blind ninja (1)

Her name is Toph and she's not truly blind if her feet are on the ground.

Her earth bending is so precise she can 'see' what's around her if it's touching the ground. She can also hear pretty damn well, so aerial attacks aren't a crippling weakness either.

But get her into the air or on ice or in water, and she's screwed.

She can bend METAL! METAL!

You know... the stuff the Fire Benders use to KEEP Earth Benders from doing that... Bending Earth!

I guess you could go the route of KotoR II.

Visas Marr belonged to a species that lacked physical eyesight, they saw through the Force instead. Something which Kreia also did, her eyes had atrophied through disuse because she thought natural sight was inferior to perceiving the world through the Force.

Just swap Force and chakra and do some finetuning so it doesn't look like Naruto can 'see' chakra like the Sharingan. More like a 6th sense if you will.

And a blind taijutsu user you say.. I'm thinking Zatoichi.

Personally I always liked Toph. She was like some unholy union between Neji and Hinata with Hinata's looks and Neji's "I'm better than you and will kick your ass if you anger me" attitude. The blind eyes made her look ever more like a Hyuuga.

As for a blind Naruto, with his wind affinity, if he could pull Toph's trick about feeling with your element he'd have a better ability to see than anyone on earth. Add that to jutsu like Kirigakure no Jutsu, ot the Nidaime's veil of darkness jutsu and you have a seriously kick-ass Naruto in the making.

*Quiet voice so that roommates won't hear* Honestly, I like her too.

My roommates don't. They think she's a Mary Sue.

That's what I thought, only I thought she looked like Hanabi only a bit older. And I seriously contemplated the idea of Toph being a Hyuuga when she was first shown.

If you're going to blind someone, blind Sasuke. Or blind Neji; let's see the genius deal with the fact that he can no longer use any of his abilities.

Actually, it might be interesting to do a cross-over with Basilisk. I think there was a ninja named Hyouma (just the name is hazy) who was blind by day; he could only open his eyes at night. The problem was that anyone with hostile intent who made eye contact with his eyes once opened would reflect all of their power on themself and commit suicide. I particularly liked the scene where the enemy ninja who manipulated his own hair ended up tying his body into a knot from one glance.

That might be interesting; give one of the uber-eye ninjas a handicap.

What's more humiliating? Going blind and lose the foundation of your abilities and get your ass handed to you by everyone or getting your ass handed to you by someone blind, despite having a major advantage in a bloodlimit doujutsu?

I'd think both Neji and Sasuke would consider the second one, both of them have issues with losing to people they consider inferior, as if it defies the very laws of nature. Losing to someone while sporting a major handicap will never hurt as much as losing to someone you consider having a major handicap.

Man, that show was so kid friendly, still is, but it got so much darker and more awesome than I ever expected it to. I still get goosebumps every time I watch the episode "The Drill".

The first thing that came to my mind was a Zatoichi!Naruto. I think that would be kinda interesting, a sort of lone-wolf, blind Naruto.

:blue: I keep hearing all sortsa things bout Airbender, but have never seen a single episode...some day, I swear I'm gonna find some torrents ( it might be slower but I get damn near everything offa torrents anymore. Though I need to start burning dvdsa, my 900 gb of storage is close to full :sweat2: )

Anyways, Blind Naruto learning to use his chakra affinity to sesne the world around him would be a scarey fighter if he had the speed and tai/ninjutsu skills to support it. Would Naruto have been born blind? Or was he blinded in some incident when he was younger? Does he discover his affinity himself and learn to use it in a way nobody else ever thought of, or is he taught by someone that takes pity on him (pretty much only one I could think of would be Sarutobi, perhaps trying his best after 'failing' the Yondaimes wishes. ) How much of his personality is the same?

If someone blinded him in his childhood, I can see him being far, far more bitter. Also, we would have to come up with an explanation for why Kyuubi couldn't heal it.

meh, the eye is probably one of the most complex organs in the body, just say kyuubi couldn't replicate a pair of eyes that would work properly ooooor kyuubi's powers wern't that active at that point in his life

Yes, but the Kyuubi can regrow a lung. I doubt organ complexity would be that big a deal, especially since Kakashi got a flawless eye transplant in the field. A supernatural eye transplant, at that.

I was gonna make a comment that the wound coulda been caused by something super caustic or of sufficient tempurature that the flesh was too damaged/scarred to heal...but then I realized that if friggen lightning enchaned knifehand through the chest didn't cauterize/sufficiently char Naruto's organs that they couldn't heal, then acid likely wouldn't cut it either. :hmm:

Well, how bout this: when the damage was done to Naruto's eyes he'd been sufficiently cut off from the Kyuubi (a 3 part seal or somesuch) that it couldn't regenerate his wounds, and by the time anyone discovered the new seal and/or thought to remove it, the damage was too old/healed over for the Kyuubi to do squat.

Or the wound was done by a new Hyuuga kinjutsu that actively poisons chakra systems. There. Having a Naruto who loathes the Hyuuga clan with a passion hasn't been done before. Probably wind up killing Neji, especially after he mentions that Naruto has no idea what it's like to suffer from an unremovable seal.

I'd say organ complexity would certain be important. The lung is a fairly tricky organ, but the liver and the kidney are so even more, and the eyes and the brain are just miracles of biology. Besides, Kakashi's surgery was a transplant (which is pretty incredible as it is). We're talking about recreating a pair of eyes, here. If I had a saying in it, I'd say no amount of chakra control can accomplish that level of organ regeneration. Maybe Tsunade could, after a few years or so, come up with a REALLY awesome Super-S-Rank medical jutsu, that, combined with Kyuubi regeneration, might restore Naruto's eyes in a distant future. But I think not even the Kyuubi's healing power has to be absolutely God-like.

I suggest, the wound occurs during the Forest of Death, or shortly afterwards, and Oro's extra seal on top of the Fourth's seal makes Kyuubi unable to completely heal Naruto's more serious wounds. Make him blind then, when the Kyuubi can't do nuthin' 'bout it.

EDIT: Also, he keeps first degree burns from falling in the hot springs. Well... maybe that's a bit much.

EDIT 2:
